Marketa Irglova’s solo album Anar is not much of a departure from the music she made as one half of The Swell Season, best known for their work in the movie Once. This new record is brimming with a lush sound that is graceful and solemn through Irglova’s impressionistic piano playing and intimate singing-—no up-tempo rockers here. With their spiritual lyrics, the dreamy and elegant songs feel so personal and conversational throughout the record with tracks like the lullaby-sounding and hopeful “Let Me Fall in Love,” “Your Company, “We Are Good” and “Crossroads.” Anar is a truly beautiful record, showcasing what we already know about Irglova as a talented artist and composer in her own right.
